It’s ALL about the PREP!

How you prepare your Skin and Hair for your appointment makes all the difference!
If, you prepare well and follow the steps, your Makeup/Hair will last all day and night!

For Hair Styling

How you treat your hair leading up to your event is so important! Follow these steps to ensure youre treating your hair right leading upto your appointment. Hair prep makes the day go smoother and ensures your hair lasts all day/night!

6 months before event
​
  • Consult a Hairdresser, Discuss your desired hairstyle and hair goals with a professional. If you're considering colour changes or growing your hair longer, this is the time to plan.

  • Deep Conditioning, Start using weekly deep conditioning treatments to maintain healthy, hydrated hair.

  • Healthy Hair Routine, Regular trims (every 6-8 weeks) to eliminate split ends and maintain healthy growth.

  • Diet & Supplements, Focus on a diet rich in biotin, omega-3 fatty acids, and proteins. Consider hair-boosting supplements like biotin or collagen for improved growth and strength.

  • Minimize Heat Styling, Reduce the use of heat styling tools to prevent damage.

One month before event
​
  • Trial Run, Schedule a hairstyle trial now. Bring pictures of your dress, veil, and inspiration hairstyles to ensure you’re happy with your look. Also bring along the hairstyles for the others in your party, guests that are also getting styled. Finalised plans start now. 

  • Final Hair Colour, If you plan to change your hair colour, this is the best time to do it so that the colour has time to settle.

  • Haircut, Get a trim or shape-up to keep the ends neat, ensuring your hair is at its healthiest for the event.

  • Clarifying Treatment, Use a clarifying shampoo once a month to remove product buildup.

Three weeks before event
​
  • Hair Treatments- continue with weekly deep conditioning treatments to hydrate your hair.

  • Hair Mask- use a nourishing hair mask (especially one designed for your hair type) to repair damage and add shine.

​

Two weeks before event
​
  • Touch-Up Hair Colour- if needed, get a final colour touch-up to ensure your colour is vibrant and fresh.

  • Hydrating Treatments- continue with hydrating treatments or oil masks (like argan oil or coconut oil) to keep hair soft and healthy.

  • Reduce Washing Frequency, avoid washing your hair too frequently to maintain natural oils and prevent drying out your hair.

One week before event
​
  • Final Haircut/Trim, this is your last chance to get a small trim, if needed, to ensure healthy ends.

  • Avoid Heat Styling, minimise the use of heat styling tools to avoid unnecessary damage before your big day.

  • No New Products, stick to your regular hair products to avoid any adverse reactions or changes in texture.

5 days before event
​
  • Scalp Treatment, if you have a dry or irritated scalp, do a soothing scalp treatment or a light exfoliation with a scalp scrub.

  • Final Conditioning Mask, use a deep conditioning mask to lock in moisture.

​

4 days before event
​
  • Moisturizing Oil, apply a light oil treatment like argan or jojoba oil to the ends of your hair to maintain hydration.

  • Hydration, Increase your water intake to hydrate hair from the inside out.

​

2 days before event
​
  • Dry Shampoo, Use dry shampoo if needed to extend the time between washes and keep your hair fresh.

  • Hairline Touch-Up, If necessary, tidy up the hairline or remove any stray hairs with threading or waxing.

Day before event
​
  • Wash your hair, use a clarifying shampoo and minimal conditioner. Do not use a mask.

  • Dry/ prep hair, blow dry your hair with heat protectant sprayed halfway through drying. Blow-dry as smooth as possible. 

  • Straighten your hair, even if your hair is already straight, give it a once over with a flat iron. For curly hair please make sure your hair is straightened completely.

  • Don’t use any oils, serums or any other products during prep, this will weigh down your style on the day.

For Makeup

How you treat your skin in the upcoming weeks and days before your makeup appointment can make or break how your makeup looks and lasts. A makeup artist can work all the magic but if your skin has been mistreated then the overall wear will not be as good as it could be. The application is only one factor, the preparation is the main girl!

6-12 months before event
​
  • If you’re thinking of injectables for your event prep, this is the time to start trying them out. Find a reputable injector, speak about concerns and trial out what you’re after. You will need a top up before you’re event but this is the time to find out what you want/like.

6 months before event
​
  • Start targeting your skin concerns. This is the time to consult to a dermatologist or aesthetician about your concerns and start fixing them. 

  • Start getting facials, once you start targeting skin concerns get monthly or weekly facials, if budget allows.

  • Try out laser- if you’re wanting to start removing stubborn hairs, now is the time to start, remember consistent 6 week appointments are key to this. 

  • Establish a skincare routine for your skin, keep it simple if youre not comfortable diving into skin care (a gentle cleanser, toner and moisturiser routine will be fine!

For those that want to delve into skincare but don’t know where to start

​

  1. Exfoliant, incorporate a gentle exfoliant,  (AHA/BHA) 2-3 times a week

  2. Vitamin c serum, start using a vitamin c serum to boost daily collagen and brighten skin.

  3. Retinol, consider adding a low strength retinol for antiaging benefits and texture improvement. Age 25 and above is suggested, 20-25 please seek advice, under 20 its not for you!

  4. Hydration, start including milky toners (very dry skin), hyaluronic acid (normal to dry skin), a good moisturiser (oily, normal, dry, very dry)

  5. Eye cream, if you have stubborn dark under eyes or puffiness, start targeting with an eye cream.

1 month before event
​
  • Start getting into a sleep routine, ensure you’re getting those important 8-10 hours each night if you can. Start sleeping and waking early especially if you’re beginning your event glam early in the morning.

  • Stay hydrated, drink 2-3 litres of water per day. The more hydrated you are, the more hydrated your skin is.

  • Go in for your final event-prep injectables appointment, botox/ dysport take time to work and filler takes time to fluff and smooth, I know a week before the event is tempting but now is the best time to do it!

  • Don’t start any new treatments- I know if treatments haven’t been working for your skin it is tempting to keep trying new ones but now is the time to stop all new treatments. 

  • Incorporate sheet masks into your weekly routine for a boost of hydration

  • Diet and supplements, start focusing on a diet rich in antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids, and vitamin E. Consider adding supplements for extra goodness.

  • Exercise, maintaining regular exercise will boost circulation and give your skin a healthy glow.

 

Three weeks before event
​
  • Chemical peel or laser facial treatments, ONLY if needed, this is the time to go for any MILD chemical peels or laser treatments for skin rejuvenation. 

  • Trial your fake tan, if getting a spray or bottle tan, this is the time to trail out your tan if you haven’t already for your makeup trial.

  • ​

Two weeks before event
​
  • Teeth whitening, if getting professionally whitened or an at home kit, this is the time to start.

  • Lymphatic drainage or cupping, consider getting a drainage massage if feeling extra puffy. Not necessary, however this is the cut off time. Do not get a lymphatic or a cupping massage any closer to event date as it may result in bruising.

One week before event
​
  • Get your final facial.  Your last facial treatment should focus on hydration and keeping your skin healthy. Avoid extractions.

  • Time to pause retinoid and acids, in your skincare routine. This time is for hydration try not to use any irritants or active ingredients till after your event.

  • Deep hydration, drinking plenty of water, using a hydrating overnight cream or mask, moisturise your skin DAILY.

5 days before event
​
  • Full body exfoliation, this is the time for your full body scrub to ensure your skin is prepped for your tan or smooth on the day without tan.

​

4 days before event
​
  • Cut down on caffeine, sugar, alcohol and destress! Your big event is soon, focus on remaining stress free, cut down on any stimulants and find time for yourself.

​

Three days before event
​
  • Really focus on sleep, hydration and exercise. Keep that routine going!

  • Time to get that tan! Get your spray tan or do your at home bottle tan now!

 

The day / night before event
​
  • Go to bed EARLY, I know its exciting before your event but avoid goinf out and focus on getting sleep 

  • Moisturise your tanned skin, you want to be smooth on the day!

​

Day of event
​
  • Ensure skin is clean, make sure skin is full clean and dry for your makeup artist.

  • Moisturise, only from the neck down.
